Help the Hospices
KPMG’s staff selected charity
For the first time, KPMG people have voted to continue to help to raise money for the same charity for two years running. Since KPMG began supporting Help the Hospices in 2006, more than £500,000 has been raised to support the important work of this charity.
What do they do?
Help the Hospices is the national charity for over 240 local children’s and adult hospices across the UK. Hospices provide vital care to children and adults with cancer and other terminal illnesses, and support their family and friends. It is based on the simple idea that a person is more than their illness and aims to help people make the most of every moment they have left - adding life to days even when days can’t be added to lives.
How do we help?
KPMG people have been raising money in a variety of ways and it all goes directly to the hospice nearest to their office. For example, three Scotland Partners - Craig Anderson, Gary Deans and Jon Meeten - cooked and serviced lunch for six lucky employees of the Glasgow office in June. This culinary treat was a prize in the auction held at the Glasgow office quiz night and helped to raise an impressive £1,843 for Help the Hospices.
As well as raising money for Help the Hospices, KPMG has also been helping them in other ways, such as providing services to them free of charge. A group of 15 KPMG employees have undertaken training, applying their core skills and competencies, so that they can carry out energy audits across a selection of hospices. Their findings will enable hospices to reduce their carbon footprint as well as save them money. The results will then be shared across the network of 240 hospices so that hospices across the UK can benefit from the initiative.
